I love the history of popular expressions. My buddy Dave has a book on his coffee table that charts where phrases like “Kick the Bucket” or “At Sixes and Sevens” come from. I read it every time I’m over there and promptly forget them all the moment I board the plane.

So I was glad to find Idiom Site which has a whole mess of expressions and their origin. The design is strictly Web 1.0 and these folks wouldn’t know an RSS feed if they fell over it. Still, I’ve beeen shuffling through it for an hour now and having a blast.

Malfeasance

Noun : wrongful conduct by a public official

Heard tonight in the movie Fargo. “We’re investigating some malfeasance.”

Lately I’ve been saying “The naked” when I mean “naked” as in “So you had the naked on the third date?” I think it works for me.

Since no one under the age of 60 bothers to write letters anymore, shopping for stationary that isn’t thick, creamy and looks suspiciously like a wedding invitation has proven a burden. But I can now continue my letter writing project as new supplies have arrived from the good folks at Ecopaper. Yay!
