Whew…

Taking a much needed break from work this weekend, reading, writing, spending time with friends. Be back on Monday.

’24’ jolts:

Note to self: Do not watch first four episodes of 24 before bed. Was up half the night worrying about how the relentless ticking of the various plot threads would play themselves out.

Sleepy Time:

My friend Britton sent me this article on Melatonin which is aparently a natural way to assure yourself some quality sleepy time. I just know if it jives with the sleep patterns of someone like me who has been treated for sleep apnea, but I’m going to investigate.

Health Update:

We’re getting better over here. The fever seems to have abated, the muscles no longer feel like they’ve been meat tenderized. I’ve still got the sinus aches and congestion, the sore throat but a pill/lozenge combination every 4 hours seems to do the trick.

I was able to venture outdoors today and spent the afternoon watching Powertool Races, which was like Spring Break thrown by the cast of The Road Warrior. Noah’s audblog post (in .mp3 format) does it more justice than I could. He gave me a ride home.

I’m going to spend the rest of the day cleaning up, slowing down and getting ready to get back to work. Lots coming up this month. I want to be healthy and present for it.

Easter-ly

Hi. I head east to spend Passover with my parents tomorrow, to meet with the agent person, and to give a couple of speeches at my alma mater in Baltimore. Blogging may be sparse until next Friday when I return. Or is it Thursday? Right now I’m so tired I don’t know the difference. So you’ll hear from me soon.

zzzzzzz

Hey I’m back…

It was neat. I had fun, got a massage. I ate calamari. I found the approximate location of the Bohemian Grove and the schoolhouse from The Birds. I drove a lot, which isn’t like me, but I also got a lot of quiet time, to think, write, meditate then think some more. I hope that becomes a little bit more like me.

Now I’m home. And glad. Me dad used to say that the sign of a good vacation is that you’re happy to leave home and happy to come back.

This was a good vacation.

My Mini-Retreat…

I’m heading up to Sonoma Country for a little quiet and alone time. No work, no blogging, no nothin’ See ya on Tuesday.

Freelancers will relate…

There’s a weird thing about working for yourself and planning to take some time off. On the one hand, you certainly don’t want (and probably aren’t in the position) to turn down work if it comes your way. On the other hand, everybody needs time off or your sanity turns to mush.

I’m taking this week off from work. I’ll still blog and email and such but no official work will be done. Instead, I’m spending today dreaming up relaxing activities for myself. Tomorrow, they get put into play.

But what of work? I do several kinds of work for several different people, organizations etc. Do I send out a note to them all? That’s a bit much, like a wedding invitation. And then I got it. Behold the majesty of the weblog…

To Jud (agent person): I will have the proposal and a subtitle finished by mid-April when we meet up in New York. Promise.

To Roman (radio producer person): I know I said I wasn’t working this week but yes, I will come record tomorrow. Someone is willing to put this show on public radio every week. I’m not going to look that gift in the mouth. And you (at your own risk) want to put me on during pledge time.

To Eric (other radio producer person): We need to get back in touch and figure out a next step for WOTS. I’m meeting with some stations in the coming weeks and might have a plan.

To Oscar (editor person): Review of Larry McMurtry’s new book due April 30 right?

To Chris (other editor person): On the lookout for Prozac Nation.

To Jeff: (editor friend): Tim’m and I have talked and will have interview done by April 20th.

I think that’s it.

Now is the time on sprockets when we relax.
