CBGB’s, the legendary New York music club, is facing eviction. Credited with birthing much of American punk rock and 80s new wave, the club owes a pile of back rent. Benefits are planned this enitre month.

  1. Not to be heartless, but let the place die. It’s just a performance venue and, from what I’ve heard & read, not a particularly good one. Nobody can deny its supporting role in the birth of punk, but that was a fluke more than anything else – as evidenced by the club owners’ failure in the 30 years since to stay ahead of any trends. The focus of the history should be on the bands that created the movement, not the club where they happened to perform.
