To fufill my critical responsibilities at filmcritic.com, I have to divise a Top Ten Films of 2002 List. No categories, no explanation, just a list.
Wanna help?

The ones I found worth it (in a rather bad year):
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Ice Age
Star Wars – Attack of the Clones (never could live up to expectations, but a good movie nonetheless)
Ocean’s 11 (2002, right?)
Beautiful Mind
LoTR – 2 Towers (not out yet, but I have to assume it will fit on this list)
That is all I have. Like I stated above, I felt this was a weak year for movies.

Isn’t it a bit early to make a list? The studios backload their offerings, releasing their strongest stuff because they know you won’t remember that great but obscure foreign film you saw back in April (Time Out… you can still rent it before ’02 ends) or that silly left wing documentary (Bowling for Columbine). They’re hoping you remember a feel good flick like Maid in Manhattan instead of the amazing, cathartic Bloody Sunday.
(Can you tell what my list would look like??)

May I assume that Juwanna Mann will be high on your list?

Juwanna know it!
And Justin, while I appreciate the spirit of your editorial, it doesn’t help me dude. You always remember those things better than me. So lay a few titles on me, aight?

Off the top of my head (and keeping in mind the TON of films that aren’t around here yet):
1. Minority Report
2. Road to Perdition
3. Standing in the Shadows of Mowtown
4. Bowling for Columbine
5. Undercover Brother
6. Insomnia
7. Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets
8. Spiderman
9. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
10. Signs
This is in no particular order. Now, there’s a whole lotta lotta movies I haven’t seen yet that I’m betting I’d probably put on this list in place of some of these selections. Some have already come and gone like:
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Atanajurat: The Fast Runner
Tadpole
Roger Dodger
Spirited Away
There are others in the process of making their way to Baltimore: (one of them tonight!)
LOTR: The Two Towers (tonight!)
Gangs of New York
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
The Hours
Far From Heaven (gonna try to see it this week)
About Schmidt
Adaptation
Catch Me If You Can
The Pianist
The list goes on and on but that’s off the top o’ my head.

I would add Punch Drunk Love to the list.

I already know I’m going to throw in Monsoon Wedding too. Keep ’em coming, folks.
