iCal v. Google Calendar:
I was looking at this post on my friend Scott Andrew’s blog and wondering…
Has anyone tried Google Calendar? Has anyone switched from iCal to Google Calendar?
Pluses and Minuses, if you please.

I used iCal and found it limiting. I use Entourage and love it. Not sold on the internet based calendar since I’m not always online.

I switched from iCal to Google Calendar, and I love it. It’s not as pretty as iCal, but syncing with your phone becomes moot since reminders can be sent via SMS.
My favorite feature is “quick add,” which allows you to add an event in plain english: “Dinner with Kevin 7pm Thursday.” You can add an event via your phone in this fashion, as well.

You may be interested in Spanning Sync, an upcoming app that will do a two-way sync between Google Calendar and iCal. It’s in private beta now.

Thanks Dan. Can you import your existing ical data to google calendar without much hassle?

If memory serves, yes. Just export from iCal, and import into Google Calendar.

I still use iCal at work, but I’ve moved to Google Calendar for everything else and just subscribe to my gCal in iCal on my work PC so I can see my personal/freelance calendar up against my day job events…
