Every byte tells a story:

I was fortunate to perform last night at a benefit for the Center for Digital Storytelling which was celebrating its 10 year anniversary. Fray has had a long time association with the organization and Derek asked a couple of us frayers to come and represent.

Based on a wealth of talent that showed up, it looks like a neat little organization that associated with lots of artists in multiple storytelling traditions. Glad I got to know them.

  9. Bare Naked Ladies? Sadly they went south to find their fortune, we don’t hear from them much anymore. A lot of bands do that…remember the Toronto band from the early 1960’s called the Sparrows? Changed their name to Steppenwolf and where are they now?

  11. Wow, I never realized I had such a Canadian audience here at WTS. Hmmmm ok, how about Rush? They’re one of my favorites.

  13. um, dunno about rush. but jarvis church is canadian – there is some hope for the new crowd.
all i was saying is there isn’t much of a literary/storytelling community here (vancouver), sure we do have one, but it’s not the same. i think it’s an issue of the grass is always greener. there’s no fray day here, for instance. we also don’t have the population.

  15. I know what you mean Michelle. And, though, I didn’t realize it at the time, part of the reason I moved to San Francisco was the welath of creative people, engery and opportunities.
But that’s not very helpful to you. With regard to Fray Day, Fray Day wasn’t anywhere except San Francisco until a bunch of people in other cities put on their own. I’m not saying it’s easy but it can be done.
I had a great conversation with an old friend yesterday who lives in Modesto, CA (no great metropolis) who has plugged herself into the local lit. scene and is having a blast. I don’t know a thing about Vancouver but it’s one of the hipper places in Canada, no?
