First iPhone Assesment:

Walter Mossberg, on balance, seems to like the iPhone.

We have been testing the iPhone for two weeks, in multiple usage scenarios, in cities across the country. Our verdict is that, despite some flaws and feature omissions, the iPhone is, on balance, a beautiful and breakthrough handheld computer. Its software, especially, sets a new bar for the smart-phone industry, and its clever finger-touch interface, which dispenses with a stylus and most buttons, works well, though it sometimes adds steps to common functions.

I was thinking that it really didn’t suit my purposes (I have an iPod and prefer simple phones) but after reading this, as Homer Simpson once said “I may be all turned around on the subject”

A Sort of Housekeeping:

You might have noticed a bit of orange to the immediate right of this post. I’ve begun pumping the RSS feed of this site through Feedburner which cleans up your RSS feed, gives you stats on who is downloadding it and a whole bunch of other classical gas. So if you formally subscribed to the Where There’s Smoke feed here, please update your RSS readers and subscribe here.

That is all.

In Your Pocket and Two Inches High:

Rumors of a Video iPod have been greatly exaggerated.

Well thank god for that. I’m still waiting for the dual-headed firewire cable that will allow me to run into a friend on the bus, who coincidentally is also listening to their iPod, and be able to trade songs back and forth just as you can beam files on a Palm Pilot (via Gizmodo).
