My top ten films of the year. They’ll be posted at filmcritic.com at some point. Mind you, it’s only a list of what I’ve seen. I can’t speak to it otherwise. Okay? Here goes…

1. Sunshine State
2. Monsoon Wedding
3. Y Tu Mama Tambien
4. Far From Heaven
5. Bowling for Columbine
6. Frida
7. The Emperors Club
8. Minority Report
9. Standing in the Shadows of Motown
10. My Big Fat Greek Wedding

  3. I’ve only seen one of the films on your list, but hope to see one or two more this coming weekend. I was gonna mention a few of my favorites on your previous post but couldn’t come up with 10 — did you see “Igby Goes Down”? It would make my list this year. “One Hour Photo”? And “Solaris” — mostly because anything that isn’t typical Hollywood narrative is okay with me.

  5. I’m glad you mentioned a few of those Mike. I was actually quite curious about both ‘Igby’ and ‘Photo’ but didn’t get around to either of then. ‘Punch Drunk Love’ same thing. ‘Solaris’ I have a weird, frankly snobbish, foible about seeing remakes before I see the original, even though I heard this new version is plenty respectable on its own.

  7. I understand your reluctance about “Solaris” — though I gotta admit a lot of my reservations about the film were Clooney-based. Everything’s a remake nowadays, huh? I do want to see the original.
