Consumed: Lethem, A-Sides, Cancellara. Grade = A-

Trying a little experiment here. I'm going to rate my own cultural consumption by what I learned, how sweet it tasted, and if I tried something new.

No swinging for eternity here. Just a quick dip in the kiddie pool.

Read:

  • About 3 dozen pages of satirist Paul Krassner's new essay collection, which I'm reviewing. Opened in bathtub during maddening yet expected 4 PM energy lull.

Watched:

  • 15 minutes of Cold Case before falling asleep. Because I'm 80.

Listened:

  • This week's episode of Left, Right and Center as I have not read a newspaper since May and feel politically at sea.
  • Silver Storms, the second and apparently final, album by The A-Sides. Attempting to decide if I should stay a fan after seeing them at SXSW 2008. Time, it seems, has answered that one for me.

Assesment:

Time spent? More than reasonable for a work day, mostly in the car and after regular productivity hours. Watching Cold Case is my fiancee's and I equivalent of chewing gum so perhaps it's better than we both fell asleep during.

Conversations with Mrs. Nash and Mann were downright inspiring and have set wheels in motion for how I'd like to be spending my creative time. Lethem novel should have been finished about 8 weeks ago (back pull quote from Rolling Stone said "Meant to be devoured in a weekend." A cruel joke) and needs to be put to bed. Krassner review I've got to have done by Friday. Not a long book but trying to make headway submerged in bubble bath was a dumb idea.

Grade: A-, based on time spent, new stuff learned, and creative directions pushed in.
